New research from scientists at the University of Alabama at Birmingham published in the New England Journal of Medicine has found that beta-blockers used in a clinical trial for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease do not reduce the risk of flare-ups of the disease, also called COPD exacerbations.
Expert radiologists and representatives from the American College of Radiology; the World Federation of Pediatric Imaging; the Society of Pediatric Radiology; the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound; and the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers will gather in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, March 25-26, to provide a series of didactic lectures and hands-on ultrasound training at "Radiology Education Days."
Bacteria release membrane-derived vesicles (MVs), which are small particles that can transport virulence factors to neighboring bacteria or to the cells of a mammalian host. This special MV-based system for delivering toxic proteins and nucleic acids in a protected manner to the target cells may have different specific functions depending on whether the bacterium acts as an extracellular or intracellular pathogen.
