Nurse practitioners are more likely to conduct HIV screenings if they feel that their colleagues support routine screenings, according to new research from Binghamton University, State University of New York. This comes in advance of National HIV Testing Day, taking place June 27.
Barbara Gilchrest, MD, professor and Chair Emeritus of the department of dermatology at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and dermatologist at Boston Medical Center (BMC), has been named a 2012 Charter Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Gilchrest, a resident of Boston's North End, is among four faculty members at Boston University nominated to the NAI in 2012.
How difficult is it to conceive? According to a widely-held view, fewer than one in three embryos make it to term, but a new study from a researcher at the University of Cambridge suggests that human embryos are not as susceptible to dying in the first weeks after fertilization as often claimed.
For newborn infants at risk of infection with group B streptococcal (GBS) bacteria, screening blood tests cause extra pain and anxiety—without increasing detection of early-onset GBS disease, reports a study in the October issue of The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal. The journal is published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health.
