Two recent studies find advances in radiation therapy are helping to prolong or improve the lives of people with anal cancer, including those whose cancer has advanced to stage IV.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Recarbrio (imipenem, cilastatin and relebactam), an antibacterial drug product to treat adults with complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI) and complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI).
Schepens Eye Research Institute scientists have found that-when tested in a driving simulator-patients with hemianopia (blindness in one half of the visual field in both eyes) have significantly more difficulty detecting pedestrians (on their blind side) than normally sighted people. These results, published in the November 2009 issue of Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, fly in the face of some recent on-road studies that have found most people with hemianopia safe to drive.
Judith Jennrich, PhD, RN, ACNP, associate professor, Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing (MNSON), has been selected as a 2012 Power of Nursing Leadership SAGE award winner. The SAGE award honors nurses who mentor and support leaders of today while looking for ways to guide nurse leaders of tomorrow. Dr. Jennrich will be recognized at the 15th Annual Power of Nursing Leadership celebration on Friday, Nov. 2, in Chicago.
