Investigators at Montefiore Health System and Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University will present multiple findings at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference, taking place July 18-23 in Washington, D.C. Research topics include risk factors for developing amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI)—a condition characterized by memory problems, and is most often a precursor of Alzheimer's dementia.
When Washington voters legalized marijuana in 2012, many parents found themselves with a new teachable moment.
The consumer group CHOICE is demanding more honesty from sunscreen manufacturers after many leading brands were found to contain nanoparticles. There is controversy as to whether the particles, which are smaller than 100 billionths of a meter, can penetrate the skin and have harmful side-effects, says CHOICE. However many of these sunscreens contain nano-grade titanium dioxide and zinc oxide that enable them to offer the same sun protection but go on clear and with less skin residue.
Researchers are using nanotechnology to develop a medical dressing which will detect and treat infection in wounds. Scientists at the University of Bath and the burns team at the Southwest UK Paediatric Burns Centre at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol are working together with teams across Europe and Australia to create an advanced wound dressing.
