These "composition of matter" patents provide underlying intellectual property protection for surgical adhesives, films, and coatings. Nerites' scientists create synthetic mimetics of the protein components used by marine mussels to stick to rocks under water.

Giving patients both chemotherapy and radiation in the beginning of treatment may help cancer patients live longer

While researchers have learned in the last decade that combining chemotherapy with radiation is better than radiation alone for treating non-small cell lung cancer patients with locally advanced disease - cancer confined to the lungs - finding the right combination of drugs - and the best timing of treatment - has been tricky.

The AABB Interorganizational Task Force on Domestic Disasters and Acts of Terrorism has determined that the current blood supply in the United States is adequate to fill any requests received to support the present needs of Haitian hospitals, though ongoing infrastructure and transportation issues in Haiti could delay receipt of those supplies to patients.

Camelina oil has positive effect on blood cholesterol levels

The use of camelina oil reduces overall and LDL cholesterol levels in persons with impaired glucose metabolism, according to a new study from the University of Eastern Finland. The findings were published in Molecular Nutrition & Food Research.
