STERIS Corporation today announced financial results for its fiscal 2012 first quarter ended June 30, 2011. As reported, fiscal 2012 first quarter revenue was $318.6 million compared with $189.0 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2011.

Low-cost antibiotic co-trimoxazole should be given to all children with HIV in developing countries

Results of a randomised trial in this week's issue of THE LANCET highlight how the low-cost antibiotic co-trimoxazole should be given to all children with HIV in developing countries to help reduce illness and death from opportunistic infections such as pneumonia.

Study reveals novel approach to treat breast cancer

A means of reprogramming a flawed immune response into an efficient anti-tumoral one was brought to light by the results of a translational trial relating to breast cancer. Thanks to the innovative combination of mathematical modelisation and experimentation, only 20 tests were necessary, whereas traditional experimentation would have required 596 tests to obtain the same results.
