Today, Highmark Inc. closed its merger with Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA) after securing approval from the Pennsylvania Insurance Department. The merged company will operate as Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and continue to provide health insurance coverage and administrative services to nearly 550,000 individuals in the 13 counties of northeastern Pennsylvania.
Nancy Chiaravalloti, PhD, and John DeLuca, PhD, have been awarded a $410,000 grant from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and the MS Scientific ResearchFoundation to assess the efficacy of a mixed-method intervention to improve cognition in people with progressive MS.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins have zoomed in on what is going on at the molecular level when the body recognizes and defends against an attack of pathogens, and the findings, they say, could influence how drugs are developed to treat autoimmune diseases.
While the human brain has over 400 miles of total vasculature, little is known about the tiny capillaries that make up much of this intricate labyrinth of blood vessels critical for delivering oxygenated blood and nutrients to billions of brain cells.
