In a new paper detailing findings from North Carolina State University's GenX Exposure Study, researchers detected novel per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) called "fluoroethers" in blood from residents of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha have reported that markedly higher intake of vitamin D is needed to reach blood levels that can prevent or markedly cut the incidence of breast cancer and several other major diseases than had been originally thought. The findings are published February 21 in the journal Anticancer Research.
"Britain's National Audit Office (NAO), akin to the U.S. Government Accountability Office or GAO, is applauding the Department for International Development's Multilateral Aid Review," Sarah Jane Staats, director of the Rethinking U.S. Foreign Assistance Program at the Center for Global Development (CGD), writes in this post in the center's "Rethinking U.S. Foreign Assistance Blog."
Researchers at the Center for BrainHealth, part of The University of Texas at Dallas, investigated the effects of combining two non-pharmacological interventions for adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment: eight semi-weekly sessions of Strategic Memory Advanced Reasoning Training, a cognitive training program shown to improve reasoning and ability to extract the bottom-line message from complex information; and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation over the left frontal region, an area associated with cognitive control and memory recovery success in people with Alzheimer's disease.
