A new study published in the journal Inflammatory Bowel Diseases develops a computer based visual tool that can be used in "real time" to show pediatric Crohn's disease (CD) patients' predicted disease course and how this might be influenced by different treatment options.
Oxygen Biotherapeutics, Inc. and privately held Sarasota Medical Products, Inc. (SMP) of Sarasota, FL, today announced they signed a Binding Letter of Intent to determine the feasibility of pursuing a joint research and development venture for treating chronic ischemic wounds. The venture will be based on combining Oxygen's Wundecyte™ PFC formulation with SMP's topical medical devices.
Elderly women with early-stage breast cancer live longer with radiation therapy and surgery compared with surgery alone, researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine have found.
Evaluating next-generation sequencing (NGS) data and associated clinical records of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients from several institutions, made available through The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), showed that combining Mutant-Allele Tumor Heterogeneity (MATH) as a biomarker with the patient's HPV status provides an effective indicator of improved patient outcome, according to research presented today at the 2014 Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Cancer Symposium.
"Prompted by concerns about an unethical U.S.-sponsored study in the 1940s," the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues on Tuesday announced the formation of an international panel "that will examine whether current rules adequately protect volunteers in global clinical trials," Science's "ScienceInsider" blog reports.
