Adding to the clinical benefits and improved patient outcomes associated with minimally-invasive surgery (MIS), Medtronic plc today highlighted new data demonstrating that patients who underwent minimally invasive colon resection procedures were able to leave the hospital faster, visit their doctors less for follow up care and take fewer medicines than those who underwent open surgery.
Phase III results of Radiation Therapy Oncology Group 0537 indicate that acupuncture-like, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (ALTENS) may be equally effective as pilocarpine, the current prescription medication in a pill, to treat radiation-induced xerostomia (dry mouth), according to a study published in the June 1, 2015 issue of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology * Biology * Physics (Red Journal), the official scientific journal of the American Society for Radiation Oncology.
A new special issue of the journal The Gerontologist from The Gerontological Society of America explores how contemporary trends in immigration, migration, and refugee movement affect how people age and how societies care for aging people.
A review of previous studies indicates that use of a class of medications known as "incretin-based therapy", which act via certain pathways that affect glucose metabolism may provide modest effectiveness and favorable weight change outcomes for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and may represent an alternative to other hypoglycemic therapies.
