Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Neurobiology of Drosophila course (http://meetings.cshl.edu/courses/c-dros10.shtml) has served as the training ground for a generation of scientists tackling these complex problems. A new laboratory manual based on the protocols and background information taught in the course promises to spread these techniques to a wider audience. Two of the methods from the manual are featured in the July issue of the journal Cold Spring Harbor Protocols.
At the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Annual Meeting yesterday, Russell J. Hamilton, PhD, Professor and Physics Section Head, University of Arizona Department of Radiation Oncology, reviewed dosimetry data for a minimally invasive episcleral brachytherapy device developed by Salutaris Medical Devices, Inc. (SalutarisMD) to treat Wet AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration), the leading cause of vision loss and blindness.
Prashant Mahajan, M.D., professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine, chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Wayne State University and Children's Hospital of Michigan, has been awarded a five-year, $5.76 million grant (1R01HD085233) by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development of the National Institutes of Health.
Today, GENALICE is setting a new standard for ultra-fast and highly reliable detection of all DNA changes in large patient cohorts. In a one-hour online event, the complete genomes of 800 Alzheimer Disease (AD) patients were processed, and by ingeniously using the aggregate information from the complete group, detection of DNA changes, or variants, in individual patients was enhanced.
AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing cancer therapeutics, today announced the completion of its initial public offering of 9,000,000 shares of its common stock. All shares were sold at an initial public offering price of $9.00 per share, resulting in aggregate net proceeds to AVEO of approximately $72,580,000 after deducting underwriting discounts and commissions and estimated offering expenses.
