Genentech, Inc., a wholly-owned member of the Roche Group, today announced that the company submitted two supplemental Biologics License Applications (sBLAs) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for AvastinĀ® (bevacizumab) for the treatment of women who have not received chemotherapy for advanced (metastatic) HER2-negative breast cancer (first-line treatment). One sBLA is based on the Phase III study AVADO that investigated Avastin in combination with docetaxel chemotherapy.

Emphysema gene linked to lung cancer

A gene linked to emphysema also can be a factor for developing lung cancer unrelated to cigarette smoking, UT Southwestern Medical Center research indicates. Smoking was the only known risk factor previously associated with both diseases.

The Ministry of Health of Cote d'Ivoire today confirmed the country's first case of Ebola since 1994. This came after the Institut Pasteur in Cote d'Ivoire confirmed the Ebola Virus Disease in samples collected from a patient, who was hospitalized in the commercial capital of Abidjan, after arriving from Guinea.

Endocyte announces results from study of EC145 in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer

Results were presented at the 13th World Conference on Lung Cancer in San Francisco. The single arm Phase II study evaluated the therapeutic agent EC145 and the molecular imaging agent EC20 in 42 patients with advanced adenocarcinoma of the lung. Forty percent of patients involved in the clinical trial had already failed at least four chemotherapy regimens prior to enrollment in the study.
