Sartorius started off fiscal 2011 with double-digit growth rates in order intake, sales revenue and profit. "We are currently seeing dynamic growth fueled by both divisions and all business regions. In recent decades much hope was based on the development of personalised drug treatments, in which genetic tests determine the choice and optimal dose of medication for each individual patient. However, the real breakthrough is still to be seen, and now researchers at Karolinska Institutet show in two separate scientific papers that many more gene variants affect how a person responds to medication than previously thought - and thus that today's analytical tools are too coarse.
Alan R. Cohen, M.D., has been named the new chief of Johns Hopkins Medicine's Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery and holder of the Benjamin S. Carson Sr., M.D., and Dr. Evelyn Spiro, R.N., Professorship in Pediatric Neurosurgery. Cohen comes to Johns Hopkins from Boston Children's Hospital, where he served as the neurosurgeon-in-chief and chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery, as well as the Franc D. Ingraham Professor of Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School.
A new cohort study comparing immune responses among vaccinated elderly persons and healthcare workers has been conducted.
