A Phase 1 clinical trial testing the safety and effectiveness of a monoclonal antibody (mAb) against malaria has begun enrolling healthy adult volunteers at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The trial, sponsored by NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is the first to test mAb CIS43LS in humans. It aims to enroll up to 73 volunteers aged 18 through 50 years old who have never had malaria.

Pfizer aims to implement boosters and a new vaccine based on SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant

The drugmaker Pfizer, one of the companies behind the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, or BNT162b2, awaits the green light to develop a COVID-19 booster shot that can protect against emerging variants. Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine has been shown to be 95% effective in an ongoing large-scale clinical trial against the original SARS-CoV-2 strain.

Patients who are severely ill with H1N1 are at risk for developing PE, says study

Researchers utilizing computed tomography (CT) scans have found that patients with severe cases of the H1N1 virus are at risk for developing severe complications, including pulmonary emboli (PE), according to a study to be published online Oct. 14, 2009, in the American Journal of Roentgenology.
