Despite reports that the numbers of new H1N1 (swine flu) are leveling off in some parts of the Northern Hemisphere, the virus continues to spread, the WHO said Friday, Reuters reports. "In an update on the H1N1 swine flu virus, the WHO said parts of the southern and southeastern United States, as well as Iceland and Ireland, seemed to have weakening levels of disease after an unusually early start of the winter flu season," the news service writes.
A new study in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal) found a 68% increase in the overall risk of miscarriage in pregnant women using antidepressants.
National Health Investors, Inc. announced today a total of $29.7 million in purchase/leaseback transactions. The transactions include three assisted living and memory care facilities totaling 102 units in Minnesota with Suite Living Senior Specialty Services (formerly known as Comforts of Home) for $17.2 million and a 66-bed acute psychiatric hospital known as Alvarado Parkway Behavioral Institute in La Mesa, California with Helix Healthcare for $12.5 million.

The proposal, which is scheduled for release today, will include $320 billion in health care savings, but it will not raise Medicare's eligibility age. Half of its savings result from new tax revenue. President Barack Obama is also sending a warning to congressional Republicans: If they send him a bill that cuts programs for poor and elderly Americans but doesn't impose sacrifice on corporations or ask others to sacrifice, he will veto it.
