With Senate and House leaders trying to craft a health care reform bill to send to the White House, the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) today offered lawmakers updated recommendations for the would-be final legislation.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved the cobas Zika test, a qualitative nucleic acid test for the detection of Zika virus RNA in individual plasma specimens obtained from volunteer donors of whole blood and blood components, and from living organ donors.
The ability to select and develop compounds that act on specific cellular targets has just gained a computational ally - a mathematical algorithm that predicts the precise effects a given compound will have on a cell's molecular components or chemical processes.
The City of New Orleans Department of Homeland Security and the City of New Orleans Fire Department have selected Upp Technology, Inc. to help improve the efficiency of their day-to-day operations. New Orleans chose Upp's irms|EM (Emergency Management) solution, deployed on the irms|Go-Kit for a mobile inventory management system allowing the city to track inventory through the use of bar-coding at their warehouses and storerooms. Furthermore, the same Go-Kits can then be redeployed to the field in times of emergency to receive and distribute cots, water, food, and other critical supplies needed in Emergency Response.
On 20 August 2008, cases of acute watery diarrhoea from Baghdad and Misan Province were laboratory confirmed as cholera. They constitute the first cholera cases detected in Iraq in 2008. By 28 August, seven cases had been laboratory confirmed, and a further 174 cases were suspected as cholera, bringing the total number of reported cases to 181 (128 in Missan and 53 in Baghdad).
