Blood flow interruption during renal surgery can increase risk of chronic kidney disease

Interrupting the blood flow for more than 20 to 25 minutes during kidney cancer (http://www.mayoclinic.org/kidney-cancer/research.html) surgery leads to a greater risk for patients developing chronic kidney disease, a Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic collaborative research team has found. The study was published today in the journal, European Urology.

Facial color influences early stage of subliminal processing of facial expression

Facial color is suggestive of emotional states, as in the phrases: "flushed with anger" and "pale with fear." Although some behavioral studies have investigated the effects of facial color on expression, there is limited neurophysiological evidence showing the effects of facial color on emotional expression perception.

Extending COVID-19 vaccinations to adolescents and children may lower the overall disease burden

A recent study by researchers from the Netherlands highlights that the introduction of vaccination programs against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to adolescents and children may reduce infection rates and severe disease outcomes – both in these age groups and in the population as a whole. The paper is currently available on medRxiv* preprint server while it undergoes peer review.

ChronSeal multi-center study in Sweden and Norway finalized

The multi-center study in Sweden and Norway with ChronSeal® is now finalized and the data are being analyzed in Sweden and by Kringle in Japan. ChronTech and Kringle have jointly decided that the results will be publicly available on May 27th. At follow-up of the ChronVac-C® -study where patients now have started treatment according to standard-of-care (interferon and ribavirin) all patients (100%) were virus free at treatment week 12 and 5/6 (83%) had less than 50 copies of virus/mL blood already at treatment week four.
