Four percent annual growth for chronic pain drug market

Decision Resources, one of the world's leading research and advisory firms for pharmaceutical and healthcare issues, finds that the chronic pain drug market will experience modest four percent annual growth from 2008 to 2018 in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Japan. Although the market will increase over the next decade, generic erosion will constrain sales of key branded agents such as Johnson & Johnson's Topamax (topiramate) and Pfizer's Celebrex (celecoxib).

Consumption of peanut during pregnancy may increase risk of allergy in infants: Study

Researchers have found that allergic infants may be at increased risk of peanut allergy if their mothers ingested peanuts during pregnancy. The data are reported in the November 1, 2010 issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Data from more than 800 Veterans Health Administration (VHA) primary care clinics revealed that national implementation of a patient-centered medical home model was effective at improving several chronic disease outcomes over time.

Researchers demonstrate successful eradication of multi-resistant bacteria from stables

Multi-resistant bacteria represent a major problem not only in hospitals but also in animal husbandry. A study of the University Bonn describes how a farmer successfully eliminated these pathogens entirely from his pig stable. However, the radical hygiene measures taken in this case can only be applied in individual cases. Nevertheless, the work has yielded a number of recommendations - not only for farms but also for hospitals. The study appeared in the Journal of Applied and Environmental Microbiology.
