Student explores how truck drivers react to marketplace demands for flexibility, speed
Benjamin Snyder conducted his research in the cab of a truck hauling frozen chicken from Missouri to Virginia. Snyder, a graduate sociology student in the University of Virginia's Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, will present his paper, "The Professionalized Body: Truck Driving in the Age of Flexibilization," at the 108th Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association.
Racial and ethnic minorities living in rural areas have greater risk for COVID-19 deaths
While Black, Hispanic, Latino, Indigenous, Asian and Pacific Islander people are more likely to die of COVID-19 than white people nationwide, a recent study from Oregon State University found the risk was even greater for racial and ethnic minority groups living in rural areas compared with urban areas.
Symposium examines Bruesewitz vs. Wyeth Supreme Court case

Study finds link between body clock hormone melatonin, type 2 diabetes
A study published in Nature Genetics today has found new evidence for a link between the body clock hormone melatonin and type 2 diabetes. The study found that people who carry rare genetic mutations in the receptor for melatonin have a much higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
