Researchers identify enzyme biomarker that can diagnose early colon cancer

A research team at the University of Colorado Cancer Center has identified an enzyme that could be used to diagnose colon cancer earlier. It is possible that this enzyme also could be a key to stopping the cancer.

Abbott receives US regulatory clearance and Japanese approval for TREK Coronary Dilatation Catheters

Abbott today announced it has received regulatory clearance in the United States and approval in Japan for its TREK and MINI-TREK Coronary Dilatation Catheters for the treatment of coronary artery disease. The TREK system is used in angioplasty procedures and is designed to enable interventional cardiologists to open patients' narrowed coronary arteries. The TREK system received CE Mark and was launched in Europe in May 2010.

Increased sensitivity to uncertain threat common to several anxiety disorders

Several anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and specific phobias, share a common underlying trait: increased sensitivity to uncertain threat, or fear of the unknown, report researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Discovery could help identify molecules that selectively target cancer cells

A new family of molecules that kill cancer cells and protect healthy cells could be used to treat a number of different cancers, including cervical, breast, ovarian and lung cancers. Research published in EBioMedicine shows that as well as targeting and killing cancer cells, the molecules generate a protective effect against toxic chemicals in healthy cells.
