Research could lead to new therapies for breast cancers

WORK by scientists in Australia could open the door to a new way of treating certain breast cancers. The disease is now the most common cancer in the UK, with around 125 women in the country diagnosed every day.

Breast cancer risks and management updates

A new report that looks at the environmental factors that affect risk of breast cancer is out. It suggests that women can reduce their risk by avoiding unnecessary medical radiation, forgoing hormone treatments for menopause that combine estrogen and progestin, limiting alcohol intake and minimizing weight gain.

Covidien first quarter sales increase 5% to $3.06 billion

Covidien plc today reported results for the first quarter of fiscal 2013 (October - December 2012). First-quarter net sales of $3.06 billion were 5% above the $2.90 billion reported in the comparable period a year ago. Foreign exchange rate movement lowered the quarterly sales growth rate by one percentage point.
