New effect of stroke identified

Researchers have described a new effect of stroke whereby damage to the sensory system in the affected limb means the brain develops an inaccurate map of the hand.

Mylan gets final approval from FDA for generic Xopenex Inhalation Solution

Mylan Inc. today announced that its subsidiary Mylan Specialty L.P. has received final approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its Abbreviated New Drug Application for Levalbuterol Inhalation Solution USP, 0.31 mg/3 mL (0.0103%), 0.63 mg/3 mL (0.021%), and 1.25 mg/3 mL (0.042%), (Concentrate).

High levels of COMP protein may lead to worse breast cancer prognosis

Research from Lund University in Sweden shows that the protein COMP, which mainly exists in cartilage, can also be found in breast cancer tumours in patients with a poor prognosis. Studies on mice also showed that COMP contributed to the development and metastasis of the breast cancer.

Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today the top-line results from its second Phase 3 clinical trial, TIGER-2, with denufosol tetrasodium for the treatment of cystic fibrosis.

Fizzy drinks may raise risk of heart disease later in life

About 2,000 12-year-olds took part in the investigation by the University's Westmead Millennium Institute for Medical Research. The scientists found that the children who drank one or more soft drinks each day had narrower arteries in the back of their eyes - a factor associated with increased risk of heart disease and high blood pressure. It is the first study to show that soft drinks and carbohydrates in childhood are linked to narrower retinal vessels.
