Negative stress increases risk for coronary heart disease in cancer patient's relatives

A current study shows that the risk for coronary heart disease and stroke increases by almost thirty per cent in a person whose partner has cancer. The cause is probably the negative stress to which the cancer patient's relative is exposed.

Scientists receive $12.5M NIH grant to continue research on targeted therapies for melanoma

Despite recent advances in therapy, melanoma remains the deadliest, most aggressive form of skin cancer as incidence rates continue to climb. Now, a team of melanoma scientists from The Wistar Institute and the University of Pennsylvania received a $12.5 M, five-year program project grant (P01) from the National Institutes of Health to continue trailblazing research on targeted therapies in melanoma.

ADI and CeTeCancer collaborate for research project

Radient Pharmaceuticals Corporation, a US-based pharmaceutical company, announced today it has entered into a collaboration agreement through its wholly owned subsidiary AMDL Diagnostics, Inc. (ADI) with CeTeCancer - a Chilean-based research laboratory - to validate the effectiveness of Radient Pharmaceuticals' Onko-Sureā„¢ in vitro diagnostic (IVD) cancer test as an early detection and prevention test for lung cancer.

Paralympic athletes run the risk of being affected by injuries and illness

Parasport continues to grow worldwide. A new thesis from Lund University in Sweden shows how Paralympic athletes run the risk of both being injured by strenuous training as well as being affected by injuries and illness due to their impairment. The results indicate that the incidence is almost twice as high when compared with similar studies of athletes in Sweden with no disabilities.

World Breastfeeding Week begins Wednesday

On the 20th anniversary of World Breastfeeding Week, which begins Wednesday, "UNICEF says strong national policies supporting breastfeeding could prevent the deaths of around one million children under five in the developing world each year," a UNICEF press release states.
