Curexo Technology's ROBODOC assists in first commercial hip replacement surgery

Curexo Technology Corporation made history on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 when its next-generation ROBODOCĀ® Surgical System assisted Dr. William Bargar as he performed the first commercial hip replacement surgery on Warren Roberts of Davis, CA. Mr. Roberts had his left hip replacement using this robotic device in 1995 as a part of an FDA study. This recent surgery performed at Sutter General in Sacramento was for Mr. Roberts' right hip.

Fear mongering abounds in health debate

"What many people say they fear most from an overhaul of the health care system [is] the prospect of the federal government's limiting the medical care they receive," the New York Times reports. Policy experts say people are right to worry about health care costs, but this fear of rationing is unrealistic. "[T]here is nothing in the current proposals in Washington to suggest that the country is likely to embark on a system of medical rationing anytime soon," the Times reports.

GSK to donate 50M H1N1 vaccine doses to WHO in coming months

Drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline announced plans on Tuesday to donate 50 million doses of its H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine to the WHO for use in developing countries within the next few months, Reuters reports. "We expect to start receiving [the first of the H1N1 doses] at the end of the month or early December and that the full 50 million will come by the end of spring," WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said, adding, "We hope it is the first of many donations."
