New strategy for translational research creates new arrangements for clinical trials

A collaboration led by the Burnham Institute for Medical Research has found that an antibody which binds to an unusual sugar molecule residing in the gut halts the inflammation seen in Crohn's disease and other intestinal inflammations. 'Energy poverty' leaves more than 1B in developing countries without access to adequate health care, report says

"Energy poverty has left more than one billion people in developing countries without access to adequate health care, with staff forced to treat emergency patients in the dark, and health centers lacking the power they need to store vaccines or sterilize medical supplies, according to ... this year's Poor People's Energy Outlook, published on Wednesday by the non-governmental organization Practical Action," the Guardian reports.

Anesthesiology: An anesthesiologist is trained to provide pain relief and maintenance, or restoration, of a stable condition during and immediately following an operation or an obstetric or diagnostic procedure. The anesthesiologist assesses the risk of the patient undergoing surgery and optimizes the patient's condition prior to, during and after surgery.
