Because the incidence of malignant melanoma is rising faster than any other cancer in the U.S., researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla., and colleagues at Tampa-based Intezyne Technologies, Inc., Western Carolina University and the University of Arizona are working overtime to develop new technologies to aid in both malignant melanoma diagnosis and therapy.
Jamaica will not decriminalize and regulate commercial sex work in the country, Prime Minister Bruce Golding said recently in response to a suggestion from a Ministry of Health and Environment official, the Jamaica Observer reports.
Divers who held their breath for several minutes had elevated levels of a protein that can signal brain damage, according to a new study from the Journal of Applied Physiology. However, the appearance of the protein, S100B, was transient and leaves open the question of whether lengthy apnea (breath-holding) can damage the brain over the long term.
Covidien, a leading global provider of healthcare products, today announced that the tender offer for all of the Aspect Medical Systems, Inc. ("Aspect") outstanding 2.50% Convertible Senior Notes Due 2014 (the "Notes") expired at 12:00 midnight ET, at the end of December 11, 2009, and was not extended. Aspect became a wholly owned subsidiary of Covidien on November 6, 2009. Aspect has accepted for payment and will purchase all Notes tendered in the tender offer.
In a feat of trickery, Dartmouth Medical School immunologists have devised a Trojan horse to help overcome ovarian cancer, unleashing a surprise killer in the surroundings of a hard-to-treat tumor.
