Researchers have uncovered a new molecular pathway for stimulating the body to burn fat - a discovery that could help fight obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
MarketWatch: Defense Secretary Robert Gates predicts health care costs will eat up about 10 percent of the military's budget by 2015, up from 6 percent now. "At a time when the overall U.S. defense budget growth is being constrained by a Congress nervous over a ballooning federal deficit, every dollar that goes to health care is one dollar less for purchasing and upgrading military equipment."
"[C]ompassion and a sense of justice can motivate" the Washington, D.C., community "to do more" for people living with HIV/AIDS in the district, Patricia Wudel - executive director of Joseph's House, which provides hospice services for HIV-positive people - writes in a Washington Post opinion piece in response to an earlier opinion piece by columnist Courtland Milloy (Wudel, Washington Post, 3/29).
Today, the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) submitted written comments in response to the Request for Information made by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for its Genetic Test Registry (GTR). AMP conducted a survey of its membership to formulate a comprehensive response to the RFI. "With the vast majority of respondents working in a clinical laboratory setting, AMP is able to inform the NIH on the general reaction to the GTR, including insight to the community's concerns and guidance to ensure the GTR is a valued resource," said Dr. Karen Mann, President of AMP.
