Charles L. Sawyers, Chair of Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program (HOPP), was awarded the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences today. The award - established by Art Levinson, Sergey Brin, Anne Wojcicki, Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan, and Yuri Milner - recognizes "excellence in research aimed at curing intractable diseases and extending human life."
From 1995 to 2006, hospital 30-day death rates decreased significantly for Medicare patients hospitalized for a heart attack, as did the variation in the rate between hospitals, according to a study in the August 19 issue of JAMA.
Halozyme Therapeutics, Inc. today announced that it has closed the previously announced $150 million royalty-backed debt transaction with investment funds managed by Pharmakon Advisors and Athyrium Capital Management. The debt is secured by future royalties of ENHANZE products, received only from Halozyme's collaborations with Roche and Baxalta.
