Federal employees can expect big increases in their health-care costs in 2010, according to an announcement Tuesday. The Washington Post reports: "Employees enrolled in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program will pay an average 8.8 percent more in health-care costs, according to figures released by the Office of Personnel Management.
For the first time, researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have found that weight loss, in combination with vitamin D supplementation, has a greater effect on reducing chronic inflammation than weight loss alone. Chronic inflammation is known to contribute to the development and progression of several diseases, including some cancers.
Boston Heart Diagnostics Corporation, a pioneer in integrating next-generation diagnostics with personal nutrition and lifestyle programs for patients with or at risk for heart disease, has received $1.0 million in additional tax incentives through the Life Sciences Tax Incentive Program.
Princeton University researchers have come up with a new twist on the mysterious visual phenomenon experienced by humans known as the "uncanny valley." The scientists have found that monkeys sense it too.
A UCSF research collaboration with GE Healthcare has produced the first results in humans of a new technology that promises to rapidly assess the presence and aggressiveness of prostate tumors in real time, by imaging the tumor's metabolism.
