Scientists create functional neurons to study ASD development

Using induced pluripotent stem cells from patients with Rett syndrome, scientists at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine have created functional neurons that provide the first human cellular model for studying the development of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and could be used as a tool for drug screening, diagnosis and personalized treatment.

Ambit Biosciences presents study results of its AC220 FLT3 inhibitor for AML

Ambit Biosciences Corporation announced today that preliminary results from a clinical trial of its lead product candidate, AC220, in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) were presented at the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) in New Orleans. AC220 is a novel, orally available, small molecule that was expressly optimized as a FMS-like tyrosine kinase-3 (FLT3) inhibitor for the treatment of AML.

ISMP Canada develops new website to help consumers report medication incidents

The Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada, has worked with Patients for Patient Safety Canada, Best Medicines Coalition and other consumer and patient groups to launch an initiative aimed at engaging patients in efforts to prevent harm from medication errors. A new website, www.SafeMedicationUse.ca, developed with support from Health Canada, provides a way for consumers to report medication incidents to ISMP Canada.
