NMDP applauds introduction of 'Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Reauthorization Act of 2010'

The National Marrow Donor Program today applauded the introduction of the "Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Reauthorization Act of 2010." Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Christopher Dodd (D-CT), Richard Burr (R-NC), Jack Reed (D-RI), John Ensign (R-NV), and Al Franken (D-MN) introduced the act in the U.S. Senate as S. 3751 on Thursday, Aug. 5. Last evening, Reps. C.W. Bill Young (R-FL) and Doris Matsui (D-CA) introduced the companion legislation, (H.R. 6081), in the House.

Lifestyle changes prevents type 2 diabetes in people at high risk for developing the disease: Study

Sustaining modest weight loss for 10 years, or taking an anti-diabetic drug over that time, can prevent or lower the incidence of type 2 diabetes in people at high risk for developing the disease, according to the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS), a long-term follow-up to a landmark 2001 diabetes prevention study.

Miami Herald reports on Haiti aid 'frustrations'

"A simmering dispute with the World Bank and reconstruction leaders is threatening the pace of rebuilding efforts in Haiti," reports the Miami Herald. The paper reports that nearly seven months after the country's devastating earthquake, "only 18 percent" of the $5.3 billion pledged by international donors "has been disbursed."

Type of contrast agent influences changes in stem cell proliferation
