Hispanic or Latinx adults exposed to pollution at work more likely to have heart abnormalities

Hispanic/Latinx adults who are exposed to smoke from burning wood, vehicle exhaust, pesticides or metals at workplaces are more likely to have abnormalities of the heart structure and function that could lead to cardiovascular disease, according to new research published today in the Journal of the American Heart Association, an open access journal of the American Heart Association.

Study links genetic variation, wheezing illness to childhood asthma risk

About 90 percent of children with two copies of a common genetic variation and who wheezed when they caught a cold early in life went on to develop asthma by age 6, according to a study to be published March 28 by the New England Journal of Medicine.

NanoImaging Services receives grant to develop methods for characterization of nanoparticle morphology

NanoImaging Services, Inc., announced today that it has received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health through the National Center for Research Resources to develop new methods for quantitative characterization of nanoparticle morphology and aggregation state using transmission electron microscopy. The grant provides approximately $200,000 in research and development funds for a Phase I study.
